What is blogging?

A blog is commonly described as a website, usually maintained by one person wherein a regular set of commentaries, articles and thoughts can be posted. Most people use blogs as online diaries to feature their thoughts, air their views on various topics and post articles or stories.

Types of Blogs

The most common blogs are the personal blogs where an individual gets a chance to maintain a log of their thoughts. Most people are content with their personal blogs even if they are not read by anyone but themselves. More than just a means to communicate, personal blogs are also useful to look back and reflect on life depending on the kind of entries a person has made.

There are also blogs which are topic specific, like political blogs, travel blogs, fashion blogs. These concentrate on only the topic for which they are created.

Then you have corporate blogs which are usually created by organizations to encourage their employees to express themselves and as a forum for airing fresh ideas and views.

The main advantage of blogging is that it allows you to be expressive on a variety of subjects. Blogs are open to being read by others so this is an excellent means of getting your views across to a wide spectrum readership.

Most people love seeing their writings published online. Though blogging is not strictly the same as being published, it still provides a thrill to a person to see what he has written easily available to other readers online.

Blogging also helps in creating a social network for like minded people. For instance the topic specific blogs often result in bringing together people with similar interest who can come up with new ideas on that particular topic.

There is no doubt that blogging is the “in” thing these days. From the young to the middle aged to the old, everyone seems to be hooked onto this latest form of communication.
