Understanding Blogging

Before starting your career in blogging, you might wonder if it has a future or not. Logically, as long as internet has a future, it’s quite impossible that blogging would not. Some experts claim that blogs will be replaced by other alternative channels, such as micro blogging, lifestreaming etc. Despite all the predictions, it can be safely said that blogging is here to stay in some form or the other. Blogging is a social phenomenon that will keep evolving.

But what exactly are blogs? There are many types of pages on the internet; blog is one such type of a webpage. Some people think that blogs are online diaries where people share their personal opinions. But this is a very limited viewpoint. Blogs are like a niche information sharing platform on any specific topic. There are blogs on individual companies, brands, social issues, etc.

A blog is a type of an informative website that allows for some social interaction. There are numerous technical features that isolate blogs from other types of websites. Firstly, content is on a defined topic, is published chronologically and regularly. All the content on a blog is syndicated via RSS feeds. It allows for social interaction among the readers and also between the authors and the readers.  All visitors can leave comments, links, trackbacks and pingbacks.

To be successful at any endeavour, you need natural talent.  First be confident about your blogging talent. You should be able to communicate and connect with people easily. Don’t be contemptuous about criticism, receive and review it effectively. Discipline is extremely important, because you are your own boss. In addition, remember to write about something you know, otherwise your blogs will be erroneous. Last but not the least, passion helps immensely with blogging success.

Connecting with is crucial to blogging success. Always respectfully hear what your readers have to say. Read and answer the comments section regularly. Be polite and exhibit humility when interacting with your readers. Review feedback seriously and see if the suggestions or grumbles are worth consideration.

While writing, remember that it has to appeal to the readers. Your readers have certain expectations from your blogs. At least try to meet them if cannot surpass them. Otherwise the readers will lose credibility in your work, which means less blog traffic. So while writing, remember that the aim is to hold the reader’s interest.
