The word ‘blog’ is derived from the word web log. It is a powerful medium of communication especially for those who are extremely opinionated. It is a personalized space on the internet which is created by person to express his opinion and is read by others. Something that started as online diaries of people has revolutionized the concept of communication and creativity. Now, there are blogs on every section of human life. It usually consists of a title, post date, tags and comments. You can register with endless blogging sites for free and express your opinion on anything and everything.

But, it takes a few vital steps to be a successful blogger:

You need to read, a lot. It may be other people’s blogs or any substantial piece of writing. It will help understand the reader’s expectations better.

The topic you are planning to write on should be interesting. It should be a topic which instills in the mind of the reader a need to read it.

Have a target audience in mind and know what you want to achieve i.e. the purpose of your writing.

Be simple because in writing nothing is appreciated more than simplicity. Remember, you are writing for the average reader and not a genius.

Provide valuable thoughts and information and sustain consistency. Each line should be as important and interesting as any other line. Each new post that you write should be like benchmark for your next one.

Do not write because you should write, write only when you feel opinionated or when you want to express your thoughts.

Try intentionally writing more on the topic you feel the most connected with. You never know that may become your area of expertise because the outcome of what you truly believe in is always better than anything else.

It is better if you add some creativity and instinct. Do not be skeptical about adding a new perspective. All your posts will look monotonous if something new is not added.

Interviews of experts, research, and surveys provide credibility to what you write. They instill an element of believability.

Lastly, add more links and increase your network. Making new friends and it will only be beneficial for you and your blogging. Social networking sites will also facilitate you in this. Comment on other people’s blogs, join forums and keep yourself updated with people’s comments on your blog posts.
