Preserving Data on your WordPress Blog with Backup
Your online data is not yours. That’s the message that goes out to those bloggers who have put in their efforts, energy and time in creating and maintaining their blog but somehow, had forgotten to take a back-up of their work in their hurry to go on to their next post. For all the attention that you may pay towards your blog posts, it is surprising that you may have under-estimated the importance of backing up your files and folders until it became a bit too late.
Just browse through the FAQ sections in tech sites that advise on blogs or in forums about blog posts and you would invariably find a bunch of folks asking in all earnestness and utter desperation as to how and where to find the magic tool that would fetch them their works lost in a crashed blog. As a matter of fact, you have absolutely no control over how long your blog stays on the web, even if you had paid for it. What is lost is just lost and there is no guarantee that you would be able to get it back in full shape until you had put substantial time on repair works rather than constructive activity.
While a manual backup of files may be suitable for those who have time in their hands, WordPress bloggers have a list of plug-ins that do the job for them. You may backup your core WordPress database tables at WP-DB-Backup. The eFiles Backup lets you have an on-demand backup of your wordpress themes, plug-ins, uploads and content directory. Do you think you need to schedule your backup tasks on a regular basis? The Plug-in, DBC Backup may be just right for you, where you can schedule them by selecting when and where your backups need to be generated. WordPress also lets you avail of an on-line backup facility where your blog’s stuff is backed up online automatically every few hours, with an account created on www.wordpressbackup.com.
There may also be a host of other tools available that would let you download the plug-ins and have your data backed up. As you upload so much of important data online, you would never know when these tools may come in handy.
