Positives & Negatives of Blogging
Blogging seems to have the new age mantra for all generations. Its simple, its easy and its fun! What more incentive does one need to blog? But like everything else blogging too has its plus and minus points and its important to be aware of both before one gets into full time blog-mode!
The Upside to Blogging
The biggest advantage of blogging is that is fast and simple. It takes hardly any time to write out your thoughts and upload them onto your blog.
Blogs are also a great way to maintain a record; especially for those who like keeping a daily log of their activities, views, etc.
Topic specific blogs have the great advantage of being a forum for creating and airing new concepts, ideas and views. Often in a business blog employees get a chance to freely discuss management issues that they otherwise might be hesitant to.
Blogs are a great way to get to know like minded people. For instance music blogs bring together people who share similar tastes in music.
Many times budding writers are discovered via their blogs. Magazines and websites can search for good writers through blogs.
If done correctly blogging can lead to earning of a good side income for the serious bloggers.
Blogging is a great stress buster as it helps one to release their feelings online making it available to other readers which is equivalent to talking to another person about the same.
The Downside to Blogging
Like anything else which is fun, blogging can be addictive. When one has the time then its fine but sometimes blogging results in the person ignoring all other aspects of life and getting totally consumed by blogging all the time.
In corporate blogs being too expressive can result in problems with the management. As an employee you need to be careful about what you write and how to write it.
Blogs can be easy to start but difficult to maintain for some people. You need to have the determination to keep updating your blog particularly if you are writing for a topic specific blog; else you risk losing your readers who get bored waiting for an update from you.
A blogger must be careful about his grammar and tenses as the blog is the first impression a reader gets about the person. Incorrect language use is a big put off for serious readers.
It’s clear that the advantages of blogging outweigh the disadvantages. However it’s always best to remember that blogging comes with its own set to rules and these must be followed if one is serious about it.
