Microsoft’s New Take on Street-Level Maps
Dubbed street slide is a new technology on which Microsoft is working and it is aimed at reconstructing the street level mapping space which is presently ruled by Microsoft’s Bing Streetside and Google Street view. The latest technology SIGGRAPH is soon to be out by the company. The main benefit of street slide is that it lets the users to alter and position the viewpoint of the camera, instead of depending on the restricted view panorama that present technologies use.
As per the demonstration video, the difference between this and the traditional method is immediately apparent. With this enhanced contextual viewpoints of the Street Slide coul also be used in any context, the real advantage is on the mobile side.

MIT with the founder of EveryScape said that the startup takes a panoramic image of the buildings and a version of streetview compatible with Iphone is already available. As per the tests conducted by EveryScape, StreetSlide was 17 seconds quicker in finding places as compared to Google.
We are anxious to see the complete paper presentation of Microsoft’s StreetSlide at SIGGRAPH and hope to see kind of technology in Bing StreetSlide too. What do you think of Microsoft’s latest take on street-level mapping?
