Maximizing your blog through social networking
Unless you are blogging solely for your friends and family, you would want to generate traffic to your blogs. More traffic means more business. While many blog owners rely on search engines, such as Google, Yahoo, and MSN to promote their blogs, not all blogs are successfully ranked in search engines. Here-in come a need to venture into other areas to promote your blog.Online social networking sites give bloggers a chance to meet and interact with others who share their interests. Individuals with same goals and common interests connect, and there is a beaming possibility that people in your online community would enjoy reading your blog. But, before they can read your blog, you have to let them know that it exists.
Sign-up on a popular social networking website
If you are an avid blogger, chances are that you are already a member of a popular social networking website. If not, choose a networking site, such as MySpace, Facebook, or Twitter.
- MySpace was one of the first popular networking sites and claims to be “for everyone.” It proves to be a useful tool to gain traffic and followers on your blog.Through its bulletin feature it makes sending out important notices to all of your friends effortless.Various privacy settings are available for your blog which includes an option to subscribe to a blog which delivers a notification when it has been updated.
- While Facebook does not have an official blog section, it does have a section known as “notes” in which blog-type writing may be placed. Alternately, instead of inserting blogs into the notes section, a link to an off-site blog may be placed there instead. Another difference is the type of notification system available through Facebook which may be set to notify the user when their comments anywhere on Facebook have received a reply.
- Twitter is one of the newer social networking sites. Users can post short “tweets” for their followers, make them ask for more, and direct them to their latest blog post.Bloggers can post updates of their blogs, and also include the Twitter widget to their blog to show updates.
Apart from these other powerful social networking sites include LinkedIn, Digg, FriendFinder, Yahoo! 360, and Orkut.
Post information on regular basis
Once you have fans for Myspace, Facebook, or Twitter profiles, everything that you post on your page or profile appears in the stream of information on your fans’ pages.Post regularly to your profiles.Create links from social networks to your blog and lead visitors. Plug RSS feeds into social networking portals.
Comment on others blogs
Visits to your blog come mostly from other places, with direct traffic from your url being one of the smallest percentages of your readership. Go to blogs you like, read them, and leave comments. Each of these comments links back to your blog, potentially bringing you traffic and increasing your blog’s visibility
Most importantly, write blog posts that others will find useful
If your posts aren’t useful to other people, they won’t be popular. People won’t care.Make your posts really good, useful stuff, and readers will come along.
