How to Blog and Become an Entrepreneur – Getting Started
Has the recession tripped you down? Have you realised that there is no such thing as Job Security? Have you seen dominoes falling one over the other as the economic downturn claimed its stakes, sending people home in droves? Do you wish you had started your own venture early on in life before things came this far? At least, do you feel it may not be too late yet, if you could start your own venture right now? If you have an affirmative answer to any of the questions posed and you want to make money on your own, you are on track to becoming an entrepreneur.
You definitely do not have to be quizzed of feel perplexed at the complexity surrounding the term, “Entrepreneurship”. I can almost hear you say that it is not your cup of tea and it may be even riskier to start an enterprise in these uncertain times. Did you ever happen to overhear the Federal Reserve Chief, Ben Bernanke, remark of an absolutely esoteric phenomenon called the “Double-Dip Recession”? Yes, these economic jargons do drive people crazy and send shivers down their spines. When a simple snake is horrifying, who would want to face a double-headed serpent?
If you wondered if entrepreneurship involved investing hundreds and thousands of dollars into stocks and inventories and waiting for consumers to walk in, that’s just one part of it. I’m an entrepreneur. And I’m not counting inventories or doing marketing gimmicks to establish my brand in the market. All I did was to invest in myself, in my own resources, and tap into my strengths. The first thing that you should know about an enterprise is that there are no set rules and templates to follow, when deciding to start an enterprise. And there are business ideas that require no more than your own unique skills and your perseverance.
I’m talking of your virtual enterprise, blogs. Blogs are no longer mere expressions of one’s thoughts. Blogs are one of the best bets available to survive and succeed in tough times and to make big money while being in total control of your time. I started off with my blogs a few years back and today, I have more than 30 blogs in my account, each one focussed on different aspects and themes. And most importantly, I focus on getting my blogs attuned to contemporary issues, topics that may be of interest to people. When I started, I did not try to handle so many blogs at a time. My idea was simply to begin. And that’s what I suggest you do as well – to begin and then, to keep going.
Launch your Blog: There are free platforms available that would happily host your blog. The most prominent of them all are WordPress and Blogger. Blogger is the blogging tool from Google. Blogging for living does not take a great deal of technical acumen – if you are familiar with the internet and the computer, you are good to go. Choose one blog hosting service that you are comfortable with, register and then, start blogging! It’s as simple as that. Before you realise, you are on with a business of your own!
Choose a Blog Theme: Once you are done with your warming up session, it’s time to give it some thought. What are you going to blog on? What would be your focus, your theme around which you want to weave your blog? Remember, this is one of the most important considerations in your blogging venture. You need to select a theme that is contemporary and that which you are comfortable dealing with. If you choose to write on technology, make sure you have the right sources or you have the knowhow to keep churning out a steady stream of articles. If you are going to focus on health, you should be comfortable dealing with the topic and should also be choosing a niche, a specialisation in health. Choose a Blogging Theme that is neither too narrow nor too broad in scope.
Get your Sources Ready: It may be easy to start a blog and get moving initially, but to sustain the pace in the long run and to keep writing articles on your chosen field requires good sources to bank on. You should get your sources ready even at the initial stages, so that you do not get stalled after a few posts. There are sources available online and in the form of books and magazines that could give you topics to write on.
Be regular in your posts: This is one important aspect to note. The initial enthusiasm of being on your own and starting a new venture could power you for a while. But then, what next? Do not rush ahead with your posts – spending all your energy and ideas at one go would leave you gasping for breath and lead to a void in your posts. Choose a convenient speed at which you can post on your blog and stick to it.
Be Original: Establish your stamp of authenticity and maintain your unique flavour to your blog. The easiest thing to do in blogs is to pick up contents from one place and post them at another. But then, that is not blogging; technically, it is called “Plagiarism”. You need readers to come to you for the originality of content. If you are serious about your business, set your own trend and make your own path.
There are many tricks around that would help you earn a living out of your life online. Making money with blogs has a lot to do with your temperament, conviction and perseverance. You have just started off with your new business venture. Cash flow would follow.
