Google Maps Gets a URL Shortener
The Google map web addresses that we share with friends are very huge and difficult to remember but Google has now solved the problem with its newest labs feature which will significantly shorten the URL’s of the maps.
Google domain is used to host Maps URL’s, the official URL shortner was introduced somewhere at the end of 2009. These shortners gained popularity after the shortners like bit.ly and goo.gl came into vogue due to increasing Twitter link sharing activity which limits the tweets to just 140 characters.
Google new labs is a collection for opt-in features for the Google products. With this feature your map URL’s become very small and easy to be remembered.
Google is still testing and the default feature is not yet on so you have to search for the Labs link on the top of the Google Maps website to enable this feature and see the list. Google has also graduated Aerial Imagery features to standard use. Short URL’s will become standard somewhere in the future.
