Blog Security – Protect it from Hackers
After all the hard work you have put into your blog, you don’t want it to be attacked by hackers do you? There have been spates of incidents where hackers have hacked into blogs and inserted numerous spam links. This takes away quite a bit of credibility from your blog and search engines might just blacklist such blogs on account of their spam links.
So, here is what you can do to protect your blogs from hackers.
Latest release
Always use the latest edition of the blog software. Say you are using WordPress, then you should keep track of the latest release and upgrade accordingly. This will help you integrate various aspects of blog security into your blog. All you need to do is download and unzip the latest WordPress release and install it. Follow the instruction for the same.
What if they get in?
What if the hackers are already in? In such a case, you need to “cleanse” your blog of all the inserted links. The first thing you must do is go through your header and footer files. These are the files that are usually targeted by hackers. The next course of action is to log into the Google Webmaster Tools and alert Google. You might not have an account with Google, but it makes sense to have one, as it’s not a very difficult process. Within two minutes you have your own Webmaster account.
Once you are logged in, you have to click on “Request reconsideration” link that can be found on the right hand side. Here, you will be given an opportunity to explain to Google, just what happened to your blog and the fact that it’s been hacked. What you are actually doing is presenting evidence that your blog has been hacked and also that you have taken various preventative steps that ensure that this does not happen again.
As a newbie, you might face hacking problems off and on. But, it’s important that you get the hang of protecting your blog quickly. Its one of the first things that you must learn!
