3 Steps to Success in Affiliate Marketing Program

affiliate-marketing1Getting into Associate Programmes and succeeding in affiliate marketing is going to take a while – and you need to realise this simple fact, if you are to rock as a star in Affiliate Marketing. While it is true that there are many who have made it to the top of the pile and are making a handsome living out of affiliate programmes, it is not everyone’s cup of tea either to be in the affiliate business. To be successful, you need to persevere. And more importantly, you need to know the right tricks of the trade. While Affiliate Marketing is not for everyone, there is no reason why you can’t be out there at the top.

Affiliate marketing takes investment – in time, efforts and money. You should research for products that you would want to sell, you should be pretty sure of the product that you have finalised on, you would have to analyse your target market after you have finalised your product, you should know your product better and would have to give it a thorough thought as to how you are going to market it in the big World Wide Web. And doing all of this takes time – and three simple steps to successful affiliate marketing:

1. Promote your Blog: Once you are ready to go the full distance and stay in it for the long haul, the next thing that you need to do is to promote your blog. If your blog is being read by a handful or people whom you already know, there is no point getting this far. Your blog needs promotion and you would have to promote your product through your blog. Your blog is your product’s distribution channel. If you can’t get your blog right, if you have not set your distribution channel in place, your product wouldn’t reach the right place.

2. Align your Blog with your product: There are two ways of going about it – you either choose a product that is in line with your blog, or choose a theme that is in line with the product that you plan to sell. Both of these ways are possible – if you have a blog, you would have to search for a product that is in line with your blog’s theme. You can’t really hope to sell a product that is in no way related to what you have written in your blog. Further, the product that you plan to sell should not be something that you have no idea about – you are a salesman and a salesman can not sell a product that he knows nothing about. So, your product choice has to be in line with what your good at – your expertise.

Having said that, it is most likely that your blog would go with your product of choice that you want to sell through affiliate marketing, because of a simple reason: You would have formed your blog’s theme in line with your specialities and skill sets, since you can’t really hope to write for long and be successful in an area that you are not familiar or comfortable with. So, choose a product that you know about, even if it is not something that you are an expert in.

If, on the other hand, you want to do it the other way – you first choose a product and you want to sell it – then, you would have to form your blog that is tailored around your product, its background and features. The reason, again, is that your readers would get to your blog not to buy your product but to read your contents. When it comes to blogs, the basics remain the same – Content is King in Blogs. You can’t just ignore your contents for the sake of your product. If you focus too much on your product, you would possibly lose out on readers and you are out of your target market – you can not possibly sell to people when they don’t know you exist.

3. Promote the Benefits, not the product: Once you are done with finalising your product and you have weaved your blog in line with your product, make sure you do not actually “sell” the product. You can’t make your readers buy your product unless they feel the need to buy it. Your job is to promote your product rather than sell it. Your contents should be in such a way that they provide information about benefits and uses from an end-user point of view. Remember again – your audience reached your blog to read about a solution to their problem, not to buy a product from you. Provide them with information and solutions to their problems. Then, promote your product in such a way that you sound genuine – be passionate about what you promote and be convincing as to how the product would be of use to your readers. In effect, you should make a case for the benefits associated with the product and not the product itself.

If you can follow these three steps and approach your audience gently but tactically, you can consider your product sold, and your affiliate marketing program a success!
